To mark the beginning\nof a new decade, we sat down with our CEO, David Maman, and asked him for his\nexpert predictions about what to look out for in the world of healthcare.\nHere\u2019s the forecast. Remember, you heard it here first!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Personalized\nHealthcare<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re\nalready seeing the beginning of the push towards personalized healthcare, but\nthis is just the start. We will soon see fully customized healthcare\nopportunities for remotely evaluating patient care, and making smart decisions\nthat influence treatment options. This market is expected to more than double\nin the next five years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/global-personalized-medicine-market-2017-2018--2024-market-is-projected-to-reach-us194-4-billion-by-2024-from-an-estimated-us92-4-billion-in-2017--300730848.html\">Research and Markets echo our prediction, stating<\/a> that \u201cPersonalized medicine has a huge potential in leading the\nhealthcare industry with drastic changes with a key focus on diseases\nunderstanding &amp; management integrated with advanced analytics, patient\ndata, customized medicines and other possibilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Widespread\nAI Acceptance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personalized\nhealthcare will also be boosted by more widespread acceptance and usage of\nAI-based solutions. AI capabilities are huge for the healthcare industry, and\nregulation is catching up with this reality. We\u2019re already seeing the FDA and\nother regulatory authorities take AI-based solutions seriously around the\nglobe, and this will open doors for new product design and implementation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\nto Scientific American, although healthcare has been trailing behind other\nindustries in terms of AI acceptance, the widespread adoption of Electronic\nHealthcare Records, as well as the growing amount of data that we are\ncollecting will help to make <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/observations\/does-ai-have-a-place-in-medicine\/\">healthcare the most disrupted industry for AI<\/a> in the coming decade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Telemedicine\nSurpasses Traditional Medical Services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe not\nthis year, but in 5 years from now, telemedicine, telehealth, homecare and\nother remote medical services will be larger than traditional medical services.\nThis will go a long way to provide medical services for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/detail\/13-12-2017-world-bank-and-who-half-the-world-lacks-access-to-essential-health-services-100-million-still-pushed-into-extreme-poverty-because-of-health-expenses\">half of the world that do not have access to hospitals<\/a> or medical care. We\u2019re not going to see tens of\nthousands of hospitals being built in the next decade to solve this problem,\nbut increasing remote medical consultations is a viable project that could make\na real difference. We\u2019re already seeing this happen for countries such as\nGermany, China, Japan and the USA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Medical\nTrials go Virtual<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only 5% of American\u2019s currently participate in medical trials, and\nyet these are essential for the development and implementation of all new drugs\nand procedures. According to Ken Getz, an analyst and professor for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ciscrp.org\/\">Center for Information and Study on Clinical\nResearch<\/a> Participation, the top five reasons that\nparticipants leave a trial are all connected to the physical inconvenience of\ntraveling to a specific location to take part.&nbsp; \u201cWhat\u2019s\nat jeopardy is the ability to bring new treatments into the marketplace\nefficiently, yet in an affordable way\u201d Getz comments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This becomes even more complex when you consider evaluating cures\nto rare diseases, such as Hunters Disease, where there are only 2,000 people\nafflicted with the illness worldwide. In these cases it is impossible to\norganize a local trial, and remote trials will be revolutionary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re going to see entirely remote trials growing in popularity. The\nsame set of technologies that are enabling the remote medical services will\nhelp to get answers and input from hundreds of subjects remotely and in a\npersonalized way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mass\nWisdom will Close the Geographical Gap<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital\nand connected healthcare solutions are only going in one direction \u2013 up. The\nbenefits are too great, allowing the global population increased efficiency,\navailability, and ease of use for a wide range of healthcare needs. We are\ngoing to see legislation and governance catch onto this trend in a big way\nthroughout the next decade, as we\u2019re already seeing with countries like\nGermany, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bundesgesundheitsministerium.de\/digital-healthcare-act.html\">recently passed a Digital Healthcare Act<\/a>, investing in patient and healthcare innovation\nthrough digital channels as part of the national standard across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As this\ntrend grows, and more countries follow suit, we will see a closing gap between\ndeveloped and developing countries. Through digital solutions, countries with\nlarge low-income populations such as India and parts of Africa will be able to\nreach the same levels of connected healthcare and cutting-edge medical\ntreatment as the developed world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jump\nAboard, the Train is Leaving the Station<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ntwenties looks set to be as disruptive a decade as it was last century, with\nnew innovation and leaps forward in the healthcare industry driven by AI and\npersonalization.
